I’ll Infuse Technology Into Agric Value Chain If Elected President – Bawumia

The presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to infuse technology into the agricultural value chain.

He has therefore promised to set up district agriculture mechanisation centres across the country as part of the measures to improve agriculture.

Dr. Bawumia, in a Facebook post as part of his campaign tour of the Western North Region in the Bia East, West, and Aowin constituencies on Monday, September 30, wrote, “I continued to engage and throw more light on the policies and programs I intend to implement, including a greater infusion of technology into the agriculture value chain and the setting up of District Agric Mechanisation Centres across the country.”

Dr. Bawumia said that his commitment is to ensure that Ghana achieves food security and food sufficiency.

“Together, we can ensure greater food sufficiency and security. It is possible!”

Meanwhile, Dr. Bawumia has promised to introduce solar-powered outboard motors to help deal with the struggle fishermen have to go through before acquiring premix fuel for their fishing expeditions.

He announced this at Abuesi, a fishing community in the Shama constituency of the Western Region, as part of his four-day campaign tour of the region.

Dr. Bawumia described the initiative as a bold solution to ending the age-old problems over premix fuel for fishermen.

He stated, “We haven’t solved all the premix problems. I’ve been contemplating and discussing a permanent solution.” He believes the solution lies in transitioning from premix fuel to solar power for boats, saying, “Before year-end, we’ll pilot solar-powered outboard motors.” These motors will be made available to fishermen, eliminating their need for premix fuel; instead, they’ll harness solar power to fish.
