According to him the media has always fueled crises all over the world and sometimes gagging the media is part of the things to be done in order to curb crises.
“Conflict is going on and the media is fueling it. The media fuel crises all over the world. I wouldn’t mind if such stations are gagged because it is part of the way to douse the fire” Professor Antwi-Danso stressed.
He expressed his displeasure about how the media seems to flame up conflicts to Johnnie Hughes on the 3FM Sunrise Morning Show citing an example with the Ejura crises.
“A case like the Ejura crisis, I will never forget that. We had finished our work and given our report to the Government and we had prescribed medicines for it and then one media house brought a relative of one of the victims and then Antwi-Danso was called to face this relative who says that we did a bad job. It is the most stupid thing to do” he condemned.
He alleged that instead of the media directing the person to go to court if he had issues with the committee’s findings, the media rather pitched him against a member of the committee on radio to engage in verbal exchanges to inflame the conflict.
“The media has a serious role to play in conflict by the way you handle it is often over-bloated. For heaven sake the way you handle conflict, conflicts that we know were over-bloated; World War I, World War II, and Kosovo mostly the media is the culprit so the media too should find a way to help bring these things down” Professor Antwi-Danso reiterated.
The security analyst was speaking on how to deal with the Bawku crises which has been of grave concern to various stakeholders over the years.
