Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene, affectionately known as the Rockstar, has shared fascinating insights into both his personal life and professional journey, particularly his unconventional approach to creativity.
One of the highlights of the interview was Eugene’s discussion about his morning routine. “I wake up early, around 5:30 AM,” he explained, adding a touch of humour to the revelation.
“The first thing I do is head straight to the bathroom. That’s where most of my creative inspiration strikes me,” he disclosed on Accra-based Hitz FM.
He went on to share his unique setup: “I’ve installed speakers in my bathroom, so I can listen to my music on repeat while I shower. It really helps me refine my work before I finalise anything.”
Andy Dosty, intrigued by this creative ritual, couldn’t help but express his surprise.
“Speakers in the bathroom? That’s a first for me!” he exclaimed. Kuami Eugene smiled, acknowledging that many of his fellow musicians are often taken aback when they discover his built-in studio at home.
“You should see their faces when they realise I’m serious about my music everywhere, even in the shower!” he laughed.
The conversation took an interesting turn when Dosty inquired whether Eugene listens to music from his peers. “Of course!” the Rockstar confirmed enthusiastically.
“I enjoy all genres of music, and it greatly influences my own music-making process. Listening to others helps me evolve as an artiste.”
Eugene elaborated on how his bathroom sessions are often more than just a space for inspiration; they are a breeding ground for creativity.
“Sometimes, I’ll be in the shower and get an idea for a song. I’ve even rushed out of the bathroom in the nude just to record a spontaneous thought!” he admitted, his candour eliciting laughter from both Dosty and the audience.
