I Rejected A GH¢15,000 Bribe During Shatta Wale’s Kumerica Project – MC Portfolio

Master of Ceremony and media personality, MC Portfolio, has disclosed that he once turned down a GH¢15,000 bribe in 2020 from the camp of an upcoming artiste who wanted a spot on a major music project.

In a post shared on his X page on March 8, 2026, Portfolio said the money was meant to influence him to remove one of the ‘Kumerican’ boys who had been selected to appear on Shatta Wale’s 2020 Kumasi Invasion Project, ‘Ahodwo Las Vegas’, and replace him with the upcoming artiste instead.

Portfolio, who was one of the frontiers behind the project at the time, explained that although he needed money badly, he chose to stand by his principles and rejected the offer.

According to him, he is grateful today because many of the artistes who were part of the Kumerica movement on the project have now become household names.

He added that he would not have forgiven himself if he had blocked someone’s breakthrough opportunity simply because of money.

While he indicated that the artistes involved have not always made him feel fully appreciated, he is proud of the role he played and believes in putting Kumasi first.

“I refused a 15000 cedis bribe in 2020 from the team of an upcoming just to take one of the kumerica boys out of SHATTAWALE’s project and put their artiste in! I needed money, but stood on my principles and used my list! Today, all the guys on the ‘Ahodwo Las Vegas’ project are superstars, and I wouldn’t have forgiven myself if I had blocked someone’s breakthrough because of greed! I’m proud of myself for standing on integrity! Though these artistes don’t make me feel appreciated enough, but Kumerica 1st,” Portfolio wrote.

The Kumasi Invasion Project (KIP), launched by Shatta Wale around 2020, was a strategic initiative designed to spotlight, support, and collaborate with emerging talents in Kumasi.

The project created opportunities for several rising artistes in the Ashanti Region.

Among the names associated with the movement were King Paluta, Amerado, Kofi Jamar, and Ypee, among others.

Their involvement helped boost the visibility of Kumasi-based musicians and pushed the ‘Kumerica’ wave onto the global stage.

The initiative also contributed to a surge in popularity for the
Kumerican music industry and drew nationwide attention to several emerging stars from Kumasi.

Following the success of the Kumasi Invasion Project, Shatta Wale later launched the Accra Invasion Project (AIP), which was aimed at creating similar opportunities for rising talents in the capital, Accra.
