I Commend Government For Going To IMF-George Kwarteng (VIDEO)

A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)communications team George Kwarteng, has commended the government of Ghana for going to the International Monitory Fund (IMF).

He said this when he joined Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show after government made a U-turn and began talk with the financial institution.

He said, ”they don’t sell cassava at IMF so if we are going to IMF its mainly because we need financial assistance. And IMF is a facility that provides financial support to its members. NPP’s economic record has always been in the good books of Ghanaians”

“During ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor’s era, when President Akufo-Addo was the attorney general, he gave the best advice to President Kufuor and he took the country to join the highly indebted poor countries (HIPC). Although Ghanaians complained, post HIPC created major projects that benefited the country”, he stated.

He added that when the NPP was voted out of power, they left the country in a good economic condition but when they came back in 2016, the economy was in shambles.

“They destroyed the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) policy, cancelled the teacher and nursing trainee allowance, brought dumsor and economic hardship. When the NPP assumed power, things started picking up, then suddenly we experienced COVID-19 which destroyed the great economy that was being built.  We all remember COVID testing was free, contact tracing, isolation, medication and food were all free. Government gave free food, light and water in the various homes as well”, he further added.

George Kwarteng concluded, ‘’today if we are experiencing economic hardship and government has gone to IMF- it’s commendable, we should have gone there long time ago’’.
