How Votes Can Make John Mahama Neglect His People

God has a way of exacting retribution on the never-ending episodes of human dishonesty. It may take a while, sometimes, but it eventually dawns.

What we are all sure about is that, this one didn’t take too long. In the eyes and minds of everyone in this country, particularly the good people of Gonjaland, John Mahama has been exposed and must be shamed.

The Bagre Dam spillage in neighbouring Burkina Faso and the torrential rains in the area has affected several communities around the Volta Lake and displaced people in excess of 2500.

The area in question spans the northern parts of the Bono East Region and some of the Southern areas of the Savanna.
Thus far, the government’s response has been appreciable and most importantly, timely, with supplies and shelters provided for displaced persons.

Not long ago, the unfortunate Akosombo dam spillage wreaked similar untold havoc on communities along and beyond it’s waterway.

However, despite the combined efforts of the Inter-Ministerial Committee Ghana Armed Forces and NADMO, District Assemblies and Chiefs, John Mahama found the situation opportune enough for cheap, petty political overtures. Whilst the good people of the area were counting their losses, he was already counting votes in his World Bank.

He unleashed insensitive political twists and turns to secure the votes accrued from his World Bank and courted disaffection against the glorious efforts of the Chiefs of the area, and against government’s effort through the Armed Forces and NADMO.

Now with similar floods displacing many in his own backyard, questions of his loud absence begs to be asked. Why has he neglected his own kinsmen around Yeji and the Gonja areas of Buipe, Benkrom, Damongo and some parts of Bole and Salaga? With his motivation focused on votes, could it be that, the palpable neglect of his people is because the number of votes the NDC gets from the area is nowhere close to the votes from the Volta region or because it keeps appreciating in favour of the NPP? Do they not deserve the truckloads of goodies he sent to the Volta region?

The old adage says, never point your left finger to your father’s house, but with John Mahama, and his insensitive quests for votes, his own people can drown and die, he simply does not care. Yeji, Bono East region, and Gonjaland do not deserve his commiseration, visit, or well-wishes, and neither do they deserve the rice and oil he sent to the Volta Region.
