A station master at the Ashaley Botwe lorry station allegedly unknowingly contacted a community volunteer who works with the Madina Police to kill a woman whom he owed GH₵91,810, leading to the arrest of two former and current station masters.
The two suspects, identified as 44-year-old Abubakari Ateni, the current station master and 45-year-old Eric Tetteh, a former station master, have been arrested by the Madina Divisional Police Command for allegedly plotting to murder the woman after she demanded repayment of the debt, according to a myjoyonline.com report on September 6, 2026.
According to the report, Madina Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Dr Aba Afari, said the alleged plot followed a misunderstanding between the woman and Abubakari over the outstanding debt.
Police say Abubakari, who also worked as the woman’s errands driver, was allegedly advised by Eric Tetteh to kill her to avoid further embarrassment over the debt.
The two suspects allegedly first planned for Abubakari to strangle the woman. However, after that plan proved difficult to execute, they allegedly decided to hire another person to carry out the murder.
According to the police, the suspects allegedly paid GH₵2,000 upfront to the person they believed was a hired killer, with an additional GH₵3,000 promised after the murder was carried out.
The alleged plan was for the hired assailant to shoot the woman while Abubakari was driving her home and then stage the incident as a robbery.
However, the plan took an unexpected turn when the supposed hitman turned out to be a community volunteer who works closely with the Madina Police in the fight against crime.
The police were subsequently informed about the alleged murder plot and arranged for the arrest of the suspects.
Chief Superintendent Dr Aba Afari said the suspects were arrested on Thursday, September 2, while allegedly preparing to execute the plan.
She assured residents of Madina of the Police Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
She also commended the officers involved in the investigation for uncovering and foiling the alleged murder plot.
The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
