In a statement on Thursday, Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II died and said, “The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.” At the time of her death, 96-year-old Queen Elizabeth II was Britain’s longest-reigning queen.
Age:
Prince Charles is 73 years old and was born at Buckingham Palace on November 14, 1948, at around 9:14 p.m. local time, according to the royal family website.
“On The Queen’s accession to the throne, Prince Charles – as the Sovereign’s eldest son – became heir apparent at the age of three,” the Buckingham Palace website says.
Marriage:
Charles, the Prince of Wales, married Lady Diana Spencer on July 29, 1981.
“The Prince and Princess of Wales had two sons: Prince William, born on 21 June 1982; and Prince Harry, born on 15 September 1984,” the Buckingham Palace website says.
However, in 1992, Charles and his wife agreed to separate from their marriage, and their marriage was official dissolved by 1996. A year later, Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris.
In 2005, Prince Charles remarried Camilla Parker Bowles, who, according to the royal family, became known as HRH The Duchess of Cornwall following the wedding.
Military Career:
After being named the Prince of Wales in 1969, Charles went on to train with the Royal Air Force as a pilot in 1971.
“In September 1971 after the passing out parade at Cranwell, The Prince embarked on a naval career, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and both his great-grandfathers,” the Buckingham Palace website says. “The six-week course at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, was followed by service on the guided missile destroyer HMS Norfolk and two frigates.”
Schooling:
According to the Prince of Wales website, Charles first attended the Hill House School in 1956, and in 1962, Charles moved to the Gordonstoun School in Scotland.
“The Prince went to Cambridge University in 1967 to read archaeology and anthropology at Trinity College. He changed to history for the second part of his degree, and in 1970 was awarded a 2:2 degree,” according to the website.
On Thursday, Buckingham Palace issued a statement saying, “Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision.”
The statement continued, “The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”
Shortly after the statement, the BBC reported that Prince Charles traveled to the Balmoral Castle in Scotland to be with his mother.
