Journalist and media practitioner, Kwaku Dawuro, has told Gyakye Quayson that Haruna Iddrisu and the other Members of Parliament (MP) who are supporting him will not go to the prisons with him if the court decides to lock him up.
The Supreme Court ordered the Assin North National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) Hon. Gyakye Quayson from holding himself as an MP. The injunction application was filed at the Cape Coast High Court repealing Gyakye Quayson’s election on the basis that he held Canadian citizenship at the time he filed to contest the parliamentary election. But despite the judgment of the Cape Coast High Court in 2021, Mr Quayson continued to parade himself as a sitting MP.
Joining the conversation on the MP’s brouhaha, on Thursday, 28th April, 2022, he said that “If Hon Gyakye Quayson had accepted his faith, we would have gone for by-elections by now. Those supporting him to go against the court’s decision will leave him when it’s time to go to prison. Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka Mohammed will not go to Nsawam with him”.
“He knows very well that the court will not go in his favour, he is only applying delay tactics. The law has caught up with him, he must accept it and go for by-elections or he will end up in prison”,he adjoined.
He indicated that Gyakye Quayson has filed for a review of the court injunction because he wants to delay the court process, and have access to parliament so he gets paid till the ruling is over.
“You cannot go against the law, step aside and go for by-elections’’, he advised.
On the 13th of April, 2022, Hon Gyakye Quayson filed an application for a review of the Supreme Court’s judgement restraining him from holding himself as a Member of Parliament or performing any parliamentary duty. His lawyers on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, filed the application arguing among other things that the court’s decision “was in patent and fundamental error and violated article 129(3) of the Constitution.”
