Group Uncovers ‘Devilish’ Plot On Voting Day In Ashanti

A group of professionals and individuals from various fields of endeavor by the name Ashanti Professionals Association (APA) on Friday morning called on security agencies in Ashanti to be on the alert to curb a devilish plot to make polling stations volatile on voting day, the 7th of December, 2020.

The group, at a press conference in Kumasi said the peace and unity of the country was more important than anything else and therefore the need to safeguard it.

Addressing the media, Lilyversta Nyarko, Convenor of the group said the faceless individuals plan to storm polling stations with guns and intimidate prospective voters.

Madam Nyarko disclosed that the plot is targeted at various polling stations across the Ashanti Region and asked the Police and Military heads to be on high alert.

MORE DETAILS:

The spokesperson said the plot has been hatched by some political party actors in connivance with some hoodlums in the region.

She noted that the plot is to cause confusion on polling day by brandishing heavy weapons at polling centers.

The plan, Madam Nyarko stressed, is to intimidate voters at various polling stations and thus make the place unsafe for persons who may want to go and cast their votes to do so.

She therefore called on the security agencies to be vigilant and act on the information to ensure all voting centers and stations remain peaceful.

CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS:

The group also called on Civil Society Organizations and security services to lead the way by urging for calm and peaceful conduct from all actors.

According to the spokesperson, continuous advocacy for peace by CSOs and other stakeholders would help political actors to tone down their language for peace to prevail even as polling day draws near.
