Speaking at a joint press conference organized by GRIDCo and ECG in Kumasi, the Director of Northern Network Services at GRIDCo, Ing. Vincent Boachie, said the collapsed 330kV Aboadze-Kumasi Transmission Lines at Bogoso, which supply power to the Ashanti Region have been repaired and now functioning thereby stabilizing the electricity situation in the region
Ashanti region since November 9th 2021 has been sleeping in darkness during the peak hours that’s 6 pm to 11 pm each night.
This was attributed to a broken power plant that carries the load from Aboadze to Kumasi. The development also affected Water treatment and production from the Barekese site because there’s a shortfall of energy to meet the water production demand for domestic and industrial use.
It would be recalled that the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, recently visited Kumasi with ECG, GRIDCo and VRA top officials.
The minister, during the visit, announced that the GRIDCo damaged pylons were being repaired so power supply would be stable in Kumasi soon.
GRIDCo assured to normalize the power supply situation to the people of Greater Kumasi by December 20, 2021 but they have been able to repair and restore works ahead of schedule.
GRIDCo has also promise the public of continued commitment to provide a reliable grid for national development.
