Green Ghana Is A Good Initiative, Let Us Support It- NPP Organizer
The Ashanti Regional Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. Francis Adomako says the Green Ghana Project is a good initiative and that Ghanaians must embrace it to achieve its purpose.
According to him, in 1900, Ghana had 8,200,000 forest cover but currently the figure has reduced to 1,600,000.
Speaking on Wontumi Radio/TV, Mr. Adomako bemoaned that, “we have lost a whooping 6,600,000 forest covers.”
He emphasized that, human beings inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide so it is a big blow to lose 54,545 hectors of forest covers.
The NPP Ashanti Regional Organizer said that if the trees are deforested it will destroy the environment and also result into climate change.
Mr. Adomako said that he is optimistic the introduction of the Green Ghana Project will replenish the lost glory of the forest cover.
He told Oheneba Nana Asiedu that those who fell down trees for timber processing should be ordered to plant trees to replace the lost ones.
Mr. Adomako indicated that the Forestry Commission should publish the statistics of the number of trees that were planted.
