Gov’t Owes Ghanaians an Explanation Over Kotoka Airport Blackout: – Hon. Kennedy Kwasi Kamkam

Former Member of Parliament, Hon. Kennedy Kwasi Kamkam, has expressed deep concerns over the recent blackout at Kotoka International Airport, questioning the competence of the authorities in charge.

He finds it perplexing that a major airport like Kotoka could experience a blackout for about an hour, especially during the night when a suspicious flight took off.

Drawing from his experience as a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in Kumasi, where the airport’s power station is equipped with backup generators and an automatic switch, Hon. Kamkam wonders why Kotoka Airport wouldn’t have similar measures in place.

“As the MCE in Kumasi, under which Kumasi Airport is, the power station of the airport was treated special, there were different kinds of generators, and it’s an automatic switch… once the main grid goes off, it will automatically switch,” he explained.

Hon. Kamkam emphasized that airport power is not connected to the national grid, making it even more inexplicable that Kotoka Airport experienced a blackout.

“The government owes Ghanaians an explanation, and they ought to come out to do so quickly,” he urged.

The former MP also seized the opportunity to criticize the government’s handling of cocaine scandals, suggesting that the NDC is characterized by such incidents. He questioned whether the president would have acknowledged the scandal if Rev. Ntim Fordjour hadn’t raised an alarm.

In light of these concerns, Hon. Kamkam is calling for transparency and accountability from the government regarding the Kotoka Airport blackout and its potential implications.
