Government To Build New Hostels For Colleges Of Education
Government is expected to begin the construction of 300-bed hostel blocks in all 45 Colleges of Education. The project is expected to start from the 1st of June, 2022.
The construction of the three-storey blocks, estimated to cost ¢485 million, is being funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). It is an initiative of the Government, through the Ministry of Education, and its Agency, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
The project, when completed is set to help accommodate the increased number of students and improve teaching and learning.
This was made known by the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, who indicated that 45 local contractors will be engaged to execute the projects.
Dr. Adutwum stated that they were expected to complete work in 15 months, adding that the blocks would be handed over to the Colleges of Education by August, 2023.
It is expected that the construction works will create over 2,500 direct and indirect temporary jobs for the youth.
