Former President John Dramani Mahama, has been reminded of the wise old saying that teaches every man that good name is better than riches following his quest for the Government of Ghana, to return the nations’ bauxite concession his blood brother illegally acquired during his tenure.
Richard Boadu, a member of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in an interview on Wontumi TV which was monitored by Wontumionline.com, advised that the former President must seek to satisfy the interest of Ghanaians rather than seeking to fulfill his selfish interest.
The PPP stalwart warned that the posture of Mr. John Mahama could affect his relationship with international recognized bodies adding that former President John Agyekum Kufour and the late former President John Rawlings, had a fine relationship with such bodies because they carried themselves well as statesmen.
It has been reported by the Daily Guide newspaper that one of the main reasons why former President John Dramani Mahama does not appear to ‘gel’ with President Akufo-Addo and his administration is because of the bauxite concession that the NPP government took from the NDC leader’s brother, Ibrahim Mahama, in 2017.
The newspaper also published that there are unconfirmed claims that the former President has said before he will let his NDC cooperate with the Akufo-Addo administration, especially in Parliament, the Nyinahin Bauxite concession in the Ashanti Region that his NDC administration controversially gave to a company called Exton Cubic, linked to his junior brother, be returned.
Despite the office of Mr. John Mahama denying the report, Richard Boadu stated that it would be hard for Ghanaians to believe the former President is speaking the truth.
According to him, past utterances by Mr. Mahama especially in the build up to 2020 elections gave an impression that he wanted political power just to have control over Ghana’s resources and not to improve the lives of people.
“At some point in time, his public utterances make it believable that he wants that concession back before he would behave like a statesman.
He came to Manhyia and said he would hand over every seized concession when he returns to power. One can clearly tell that he isn’t interested in being a statesman but rather seeking wealth”, Richard Boadu said.
He advised that there were floating voters monitoring the actions of Mr. Mahama and would not vote for him if he doesn’t work on redeeming his image.
