Gold Rush: 3 Dead As Armed Robbers Engage Miners In Gun Battle
Three persons have been confirmed dead after gun-wielding robbers engaged miners in a gun battle between Denkyira Nkroful and Dunkwa Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region.
One of the survivors of the incident, Kwabena Badu told the police that he was driving a Lincoln Navigator with registration number GR 6113 – 12 and onboard were eight person miners who were travelling with him from Denkyira Adaboi to Dunkwa on Offin
But on reaching a section of the road between Denkyira Nkroful and Treposu junction three armed men emerged from the bush wielding AK 47 rifles and pump-action guns fired on miners and they also opened fire on the armed robbers.
Two of the miners died on the spot and two others sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries.
one of the armed robbers yet to be identified also died. There were stains of blood in the car and gunshots on the car and the scene of the crime.
Bodies of the deceased persons have been conveyed and deposited at Dunkwa government hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
