GIADEC Inaugurates 19 Member Committee To Strengthen Community Relations

The Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Corporation (GIADEC) has inaugurated a 19 member committee to build strong community relations and address the numerous challenges that affect the communities located within the areas rich in bauxite deposits.

The membership of the committee was drawn from stake holders who are the custodians of the bauxite concessions in the various communities as well as GIADEC representatives.

The breakdown of the committee membership is as follows: Three traditional representative selected from the traditional authorities, representatives of the Bi bani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly (BAB) Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) representative from NADMO, BNI and the Municipal Police Commander.

The other members are representative from NCCE, two religious bodies, three affected community members, two organized groups and NGO.

Speaking at the inauguration at Awaso, the Chief Executive Officer of GIADEC, Mr. Michael Ansah , said the mandate and duties of the committee members are to collect information and resolve disputes and other societal issues that create misunderstanding between the affected communities and GIADEC.

The current challenges facing the communities are facing include lack of health facilities, poor roads and poor water supply.

The Chief of Awaso Nana Kwame Amponsah III, expressed gratitude to the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and the leadership of GIADEC for the concerns they have shown towards the affected communities and their readiness to support the affected communities.

According to the chief the interest shown in the affairs of the communities who own the lands is very necessary because since bauxite mining started in those areas in the past 80 years there has been no improvement in the livelihood of the people
