Ghanaians Urged To Cultivate The Habit Of Paying Ground Rent

The Office of the Administrator of Stool Lands (OASL) has called on the general public to cultivate the habit of paying ground rent (“Asaase tuo”).

The OASL noted that this will help in the development of the country and also guide against possible prosecution.

Speaking at an event to mark the 25th anniversary, Madam Ama Edumadzie Acquah, Administrator of OASL, reiterated the need for landowners to pay ground rent, alluding that such revenues contributes to the national development agenda.

The 25th Anniversary is themed, “OASL @ 25 – Assessing The Past, Redeeming The Future Of Customary Land Administration.

She further stressed that person’s who fail to pay ground rent could be taken to the law court for sanctions to be taken against them.

Madam Ama Edumadzie highlighted on challenges confronting them in the quest to collect rent for the government.

She said illegal mining activities (galamsey), chieftaincy disputes, financial, non-availability of space to operate from, inadequate staff as some of the challenges.
