GFA Ban Asante Kotoko From Registering New Players
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Player Status Committee have imposed a national transfer ban and a fine on Asante Kotoko SC.
There were massive clear out of players by the club before the start of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season. More than a dozen players were shipped out while about nine new players were recruited by the club. Some of the players who were cut loose were disgruntled and dragged the club before the Player Status Committee (PSC).
In separate petitions, Abass Mohammed, Mathew Kelvin Andoh and Stephen Tetteh Ayiku and Evans Owusu, all petitioned the PSC on the Club’s unilateral termination of their contracts.
One player whose ruling has brought about the transfer ban on the club is once capped Ghana Black Stars player who joined the Porcupines in October 2018 after returning home from a season’s spell in the United States with USL side Harrisburg Islanders, Abass Mohammed who filed a complaint over multiple breach of contract against the club.
However, after calling the matter and deliberation from both parties, the Player Status Committee found Asante Kotoko guilty and have asked the Reds to pay a compensation of GH42,600 for breach of contract plus 5% interest from the time his contract was terminated until the date of effective payment.
Also, the club must pay the player GHc20,000 as outstanding enticement fee plus 5% interest from the time his contract was terminated until the date of effective payment and a ban from registering new players domestically for one registration period and a fine of not less than GHc5,000.
The news came in a statement on the organisation’s website, in which it’s noted the Porcupine warriors have been punished “for breaches relating to Inducement of players to terminate their contracts or terminating players contract during a protected period”
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko are yet to comment on the ruling but has 14 days to settle all the debt or risk been dragged to the GFA Disciplinary Committee.
