Galamsey Fight: Chief Bemoans Burning Of Seized Excavators
Nana Oteatuoso Kokoben II, Akwanserehene of Akyem Kwabeng, has affirmed that he is not happy with the burning of seized excavators in combating illegal mining.
According to him, there are many ways that can be used to fight the galamsey activities.
Contributing to a discussion on Wontumi Radio cum TV’s Morning Show, Nana Oteatuoso stressed that, he wasn’t happy when the NDC government burnt the excavators of Chairman Wontumi so he doesn’t support this operation.
“We say a big no to the burning of the excavators. They are very expensive. Can the soldiers doing this operation assemble just a single excavator?” Nana Oteatuoso asked.
According to him, the excavators when seized can be auctioned and used to develop the country.
He said that, if the excavators have no good importance to offer the state, they can be used to desilt gutters.
“A poor country like this and God has blessed us why should we burn excavators?” He further questioned.
The governance watcher stated that, “let’s make good use of the excavators rather than burning them”.
