The Western North Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Benjamin Armah, has publicly expressed his opinion on who should be Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s running mate.
While emphasizing that the ultimate decision lies with the Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr. Armah shared his personal preference for Madam Frema Opare, a highly respected figure from the Ashanti region, who is currently the Chief of Staff, at the office of the President.
Mr. Armah becomes the first regional Chairman of the party, to publicly declare his stance, on who should become Dr. Bawumia’s running mate.
“My suggestion is not meant to be taken as an official endorsement from the regional party, or a decision imposed on others. Rather, it is my personal opinion. However, I’ve discussed my reasoning with my people, who have largely agreed with my perspective”, he said.
In light of Dr. Bawumia’s announcement that the running mate will be selected from the Ashanti region, Mr. Armah believes Frema Opare is an excellent choice, given her impressive credentials and regional roots. He wonders why his suggestion has sparked controversy, emphasizing that his intention is to contribute to the party’s success, not to create divisions.
Armah’s primary concern is party unity, with elections just around the corner. He urged NPP members to remain united and focused, warning against apathy and internal divisions. He reiterated the party’s commitment to the country’s prosperity and highlighted the importance of presenting a united front to achieve victory.
