Free SHS Admissions Shoot Up To 1.25 Million Annually- Education Minister Discloses

“The over 800,000 students that used to be enrolled in SHS annually has now climbed to a figure of 1.25million,” the Education Minister, Hon Dr. Osei -Yaw Adutwum has disclosed.

He said that President Akufo-Addo at least deserves a commendation for introducing the free Senior High School programme rather than discouraging him.

Speaking exclusively with Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Wontumi Radio/TV’s Morning Show “The Privilege”, Hon. Adutwum jabbed that if the free SHS critics have experienced poverty before, they wouldn’t have criticized the policy.

The Bosomtwe Constituency Member of Parliament indicated that the vunerable children in the deprived communities will not give ears to the critics because they know the benefit they have derived from the free SHS programme.

“Every new implementation has challenges but if you are able to curb the challenges, the policy becomees a state property,” he said.

The Education Minister affirmed that the Akufo-Addo government is building more infrastructures to fight the double track system.

However, he reiterated that primary four students will write a national exam to assess the mathematics and the English speaking of the students.

According to him, Akufo-Addo wants Ghana to emulate other countries on how their education system has had impact on their nations.

Hon. Adutwum said, ” I praise Nana Akufo-Addo for the good work he is doing and the vision that is lifting our education system to different level to compete with the advance countries and to defeat them.”
