For The Sake Of The Hospitals Kindly Restore Power To Krobo- Reg. Minister Pleads With ECG

The Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Acheampong, has pleaded with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), to provide the Krobo land with power for the sake of the hospitals and candidates of the West Africa Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

In a phone interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV, the lawmaker pleaded with the residents to co-operate with the officials of the ECG to ensure cool heads prevail.

“Since 2014, the residents of Kroboland have been at odds with ECG over the installation of prepaid meters among other things, what they have called over billing. Due to the deadlock, there were multiple protests, acts of vandalism against ECG employees and property in Somanya, and a youth group later decided not to pay their electricity bills any more”, he lamented.

Adding that “but during several consultations, it was agreed upon to install prepaids to the resident. The painful aspect is that it’s just a few of them who are resisting against it and therefore when the ECG officials are sent there, they pelt stones at them”, he said.

“As I speak to you, my greatest worry with regards to the power cut is the hospitals which will need energy to preserve their medicines and also the WASSCE candidates- so I plead with the ECG to restore power at least for the sake of the hospitals and the final year candidates. To err is human but to forgive is divine. We should all come to an amicable conclusion on how best we could solve this, so that the prepaids could be installed”, he stressed.

He urged the residents to ensure that peace prevails as he assured them that the soldiers are not there to cause harm. “We are hopeful that things will get better”, he concluded.
