Lawyer Nana Serwaah, a Private legal practitioner, has advised the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo-Dampare, to fish out the bad nut in the Nkoranza investigations.
Albert Donkor, the 27 year old deceased was one of the suspected robbers who were arrested for an alleged robbery on Tuesday May 17th,2022, but was confirmed dead, four hours after his arrest.
The Director- General of the Public Affair Directorate of Police, DCOP Kwesi Ofori said they gathered intelligence that Albert Donkor was among the five other gangs of suspected robbers who have been involved in several robbery attacks in the Region, including the attacks at Nkoranza on 19th and 20th April, 2022.
Albert, who is also a satellite television dish installer was shot when the operation was conducted. He died at the Holy Family Hospital when he was rushed to receive medical attention but was marked dead upon arrival. The youth of the community since then has been calling for justice for Albert.
Lawyer Serwaah voicing out her frustrations on the issue said, “I don’t want to assume the police is trying to protect their own .When security persons are the victims the criminal is immediately arrested within 24 hours or less but if it about civilians it takes forever. The Police Intelligence And Professional Standards Bureau (PIPS) must treat internal investigations with urgency to prevent citizens from losing confidence in the police’’.
“I believe this is a fine opportunity for Dampare to show he is transparent and punish whoever goes against the law whether a civilian or a security person. It doesn’t matter where the crime is committed or who commits it, justice must prevail. The Police who were involved in the issue should have been picked up by now’’, she added.
She cautioned the Police that the Civilians are not their enemies and advised them to design a new approach in dealing with civilians and avoid mishandling them.
