First Lady Addresses Forum On International Women’s Day In Kumasi

The First Lady of Ghana, Mrs Rebecca Akufo- Addo has stated that anytime a conflict erupts in a particular country, women and children are largely affected yet they are not recognized in the peace process.

She said research has confirmed that there’s a 45% greater chance of peace agreements in the past 15 years when women participated in the process.

“If women play an integral part for peace, why do we largely exclude them from peace negotiations”, she asked.

She said this during the International Women’s Day celebration held in Kumasi on the topic “Breaking the Bias”.

She said women are still being paid less than men for the same work done yet their contribution to society is magnificent and needs equal respect and reward.

Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, therefore, pleaded that such mentality is thrown into the dustbin.

She urged authorities to put in place measures that will encourage women to deliver towards the development of the country.
