Fight Against Illegal Arms In The County – Otumfuo To Dampare

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II has asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to deal with the proliferation of illegal arms in the country.

He explained that a lot of guns are not registered and they are used to commit crimes.

His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made the call when the IGP paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Otumfuo said Ghana is enjoying her necessary peace but the multiplication of arms is worrisome and reminded the IGP of his responsibility to check and deal with it.

“It’s your responsibility to find out and deal with those importing them illegally.A lot of guns find their way into the country and are not registered,” Otumfuo reiterated.

The Asantehene avowed that a chunk of Police Officers are clean with their duties but the others who give their guns to criminals to use for robbery must be stopped and dealt with accordingly.

Otumfuo urged the IGP to sensitize citizens about the dos and donts in order to entangle themselves with the laws of the land.

The IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare assured Otumfuo that he and his commanders, with unity and love of the country, will work assiduously to protect life and property.
