President Akufo-Addo has charged the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, to expedite action on the collaboration between his ministry and the Mendel University in the Czech Republic, aimed at transitioning the Kwadaso Agricultural College (KAC) in Nzema-Kwadaso, into a fully-fledged Agricultural University.
The President gave the charge today 30 September 2022, when he addressed a grand durbar of the centenary anniversary celebration of the Kwadaso Agricultural College in the Ashanti Region university
“There is clear and obvious need to scale up consciously, the number of middle level professionals who provide hands-on support in the Agriculture sector.
I pledge the support of government to make this dream [transforming Kwadaso Agricultural College into a University] a reality and I charge the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to step up efforts and strengthen the partnership and collaboration with the Mendel university to realize this vision” President Akufo-Addo said.
Transforming KAC
According to the President, “the current vision of government for the Kwadaso Agricultural College is to upgrade the institution into an Agricultural university with collaborative support from the prestigious Mendel University of the Czech Republic”.
“It is my understanding that the Agricultural University will take care of the academic and professional development of our human resource for the Agricultural sector. If successful, the plan will include establishing satellite campuses in Ejura and Wenchi Agricultural colleges.
“The reason why the establishment of this university dedicated to excites me very much is because we will produce the requisite numbers of human resource to support research, impact knowledge and provide leadership in the sector” President Akufo-Addo said.
“The collaboration between the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Mendel University exemplify the wisdom of collaborating to make our institutions very valuable to our development efforts” President Akufo-Addo added.,

In his address, President Akufo-Addo, acknowledged the participation of a representative of the Mendel University at the grand durbar, in essence, confirming the ongoing talks for a partnership between the two universities.
“I want to recognize in our midst, the presence of our compatriot, Professor Samuel Darkwah, a lecturer and representative of Mendel University at this occasion.
I have been apprised of your tireless effort to help bring about the desired transformation of Kwadaso College for which we are grateful” President Akufo-Addo said.

Minister for Food and Agriculture, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, in his statement, indicated that Kwadaso Agricultural College has played a vital role in making government’s flagship programme of “Planting for Food and Jobs” a success.
He added that the Mendel university initiative taken by his ministry will be steered into reality. He assured the President, Management and staff of the Kwadaso Agricultural College and the people of Kwadaso in general that he will ensure the transformation of the college into an out-and-out I’versity.
