The Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency, Lawyer Obiri Yeboah, has expressed his deep disappointment, along with many Ghanaians, including some NDC MPs, in President Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA 2025).
Speaking on the Wontumi morning show, Obiri Yeboah noted that President Mahama failed to address pressing issues, such as illegal mining, which he had promised to tackle in his 2024 manifesto. Instead, the President focused on different agendas, leaving many feeling let down.
“I was sad, and even the NDC MPs were disappointed. We expected the President to provide concrete solutions to the challenges facing our nation, but unfortunately, he fell short of our expectations,” Obiri Yeboah revealed.
Obiri Yeboah also highlighted that President Mahama has spent over GH¢50 billion in just two months, contradicting his promise to protect the economy. Furthermore, despite promising to create youth employment, the President has sacked many government workers within the same period.
The Subin MP’s sentiments echo those of Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who criticized President Mahama’s economic policies and handling of unemployment during the SONA. The NDC MPs’ disappointment is particularly noteworthy, as they would typically be expected to support the President’s address.
Obiri Yeboah concluded by urging President Mahama to redeem his promises, particularly to the youth, who played a significant role in electing him as President. “It’s time for the President to walk the talk and deliver on his promises. The Ghanaian people are watching, and we expect to see tangible results,” he emphasized.
