Entrance To Ghana Lebanon International School Becomes Hotspot For Social Vices As Squatters Take Over Land

Imagine sending your daughters to school, only to have them face a hotspot of social vices and crime right outside their school gates. Unfortunately, this is the harsh reality for students at Ghana Lebanon International Secondary School in Accra.

Authorities of the school have expressed grave concerns over the illegal development of a small piece of land behind their school, which has been occupied by squatters.

The squatters’ structures have become a haven for prostitution, illicit drug abuse, and violent altercations, posing a significant threat to the students’ safety and well-being.

Parents and school officials are worried that the situation could lead to immoral practices, increased crime, and environmental hazards. The structures also serve as a hideout for thieves, who have been known to target students.

One parent expressed her concerns, saying, “We cannot sit back and watch as these squatters compromise the safety and well-being of our children.”

Another parent added, “This is a boarding school, and it’s a girls’ school. There have been instances where these criminals come into the school to steal phones. Many parents are removing their wards from the school as a result of this development. City authorities must take action.”

The school authorities have urged the city authorities to intervene and stop the development, ensuring the students’ protection.

In a letter to relevant authorities, the Institute highlighted the squatters’ alleged involvement in social vices and appealed for immediate action to vacate the squatters and safeguard the learners, staff, and law-abiding citizens. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the squatters are developing the land near a high-voltage pylon, putting everyone’s lives at risk.

The school authorities fear that in the event of a disaster; the consequences would be catastrophic. It is imperative that the authorities take swift action to address this situation and ensure the safety and well-being of the students.
