Election 2020: Stop Attacking NPP’s ‘Saviour’ Chairman Wontumi- Tuobodom DCE
The District Chief Executive for the Techiman North in the Bono East Region Hon Peter Mensah asked those who are calling for the resignation of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling NPP Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasaiko, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi to put a stop to that but rather commend him for “saving the party from an embarrassing defeat”.
According to Hon Peter Mensah, the ruling party must appreciate his efforts and, commitments and hard work by the regional Chairman Wontumi for once again securing sweet victory for the NPP in the just ended elections.
Speaking to newsmen in an interview on Monday December 28, 2020 the Techiman North DCE praised Chairman Wontumi for his ability to mobilise electorates in the Ashanti region to cast their ballots in numbers for the party to ensure NPP win convincedly in the Ashanti region. adding that “once again we have the region and its leadership to thank for their splendid performance; they have proven once again that Ashanti Region is the heart of the party, without you where will our party be.
Chairman Wontumi’s election2020 pledge
Prior to election 2020, Chairman Wontumi as he is affectionately called promised to win all 47 seats in the Ashanti region or he will resign if he’s unable to lead the NPP in the region to win those seats.
Currently, pressure is being mounted on the Chairman to resign because he failed to achieve the feat but Wontumi insist the Ashanti Region saved the NPP and therefore he has nowhere to go.
Going to the 2020 polls with 47 seats and losing 4 to the NDC and 1 to an independent candidate in the Ashanti Region has called for the resignation of Chairman Wontumi.
The DCE’S support
But Hon Peter Mensah is appealing to the Ashanti Regional Chairman to seek re-election to ensure the victory of the party in 2024.
He indicated that comparatively, the Ashanti Region did its best for the NPP considering the fact that several seats were lost in other regions.
To him, Chairman Wontumi should be maintained and also should not to heed to pressure on him to resign from the position he currently occupies.
