Election 2020 – NPP Claims Victory
The New Patriotic Party( NPP) has addressed an early dawn press conference in Accra claiming its Presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo has accumulated enough votes to be declared the winner in the elections.
“ President has amassed 52.72 % of the total votes counted which is 6,085,708 of the Presidential votes from the pink sheets scanned and sent to the party’s national headquarters in Accra.
General Secretary of the Party, John Boadu, who addressed the press conference noted.
“It’s the highest number of votes to be secured by any presidential candidate in the Fourth Republic.” He explained.
However, he insisted that the ruling party would not declare the results in its own accord until, the EC comes out openly to announce the official certified results.
Mr Boadu is also hopeful that the NPP will maintain its majority in Parliament.
”At the end of the collation of ballots would still hold majority seats in parliament’.He said.
According to Mr Boadu, “The NDC has lost Damongo, Daboya, and Salaga North in the Savannah region.
“The NPP is now the majority party in John Mahama’s region, controlling four seats out of seven seats.”He said.
He continued that the NDC lost the Lambussie seat, in the Upper West Region as well as Yagaba Kubori and also Yooyoo, Karaga, Tatale,
Zabzugu.
For the first time in the Party’s history, it has won a seat in the Volta Region. .John Peter Amewu won the Hohoe seat in a dramatic fashion.
He disclosed that the NPP still maintains its dominance in its strongholds such as Ashanti, Eastern, Western as well as the Central Regions. Aside this it claimed victory in the newly created Regions of Ahafo and North East.
“It is regrettable that the NPP could not win majority of the Parliamentary seats in the newly created Regions such as Oti, North West, Savannah, and Bono.” An ardent NPP supporter lamented.
