Election 2020: Fransisca Oteng Mensah Proves That Age Is Just A Number

Maame Serwaah popularly known by her constituents, has once again set herself apart as a force to reckon with in Ghana’s political dispensation as the youngest Member of Parliament, leading Kwabre East Constituency in the Ashanti region to garner the highest number of votes for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Nana Akufo-Addo for the second time running

Hon Francisca Oteng Mensah attended the Mamponteng Roman Catholic School, then proceeded to Revival Preparatory School at Breman and finally to Supreme Saviour International where she completed her Primary Six. She had her Junior High education at Angel Educational Complex. She then continued to St. Roses Senior High School to complete her Senior High Education.

Her desirous quest for higher academic excellence compelled her to enroll at the Faculty of Law at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) where she read law.
While in KNUST,
she contested and won the 2016 parliamentary elections in the Kwabre East Constituency on the ticket of the National Patriotic party and proceeded to parliament at age 23 as the youngest ever member to join parliament. Before becoming a parliamentary candidate , she was Secretary to the Angel Group of Companies in Kumasi.

In December 2017, she was appointed as the chairperson of the National Youth Authority.
In a space of four years, the 27 year-old female legislator, has managed to once again sweep lots of votes in her constituency for herself and the president, making Kwabre East constituency amongs popular constituencies in terms of support for the NPP.

In the just-ended 2020 parliamentary elections, she, against an independent candidate from the camp of NPP and another keen contender from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), managed to annex a whopping seventy seven thousand, six hundred and thirty five votes (77,635); almost seven thousand votes more than the 2016 figure.

Hon. Francisca’s first tenure as a member of parliament is characterized by massive development, infrastructure and building of human resource of constituents in the Kwabre East Constituency.Her good works can be seen in all the communities in the constituency in terms of education, health, road infrastructure just to mention a few. She has managed to win the hearts of both the old and the young with her wonderful personality.

It is during her tenure that the Mamponteng Town Roads and those in eight other towns are being constructed simultaneously; she also instituted the Kwabre Anwenie Festival as a means putting the arts and crafts of the Kwabre people on the map.
Having already distinguished herself as the Board Chairman of the National Youth Authority (NYA), it is not surprising that the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged to elevate her in his next government, following an appeal made to him by Mampontenghene, Barima Saasi Ayeboafo II in 2019.

In his own words, the President said, “I have taken your call for me to adopt her in good fate and I do not take it lightly at all; in the coming elections, she must be upheld again and if God blesses my administration with a second term, Nana, you will see how I will elevate her in your honour.”

Expressing heartfelt gratitude to her constituents, she has promised that in her second term as the youngest legislator, the number of developmental projects as well as other commitments from the central government for the people of Kwabre East would be in tandem with the amount of votes that the NPP got from that constituency so she is hopeful more good things will come so her constituents yet to feel NPP’S commitment to the constituency should be hopeful.
