A senior Research Fellow at KsTU, Dr. Smart Sarpong, has commented on the latest EIU report which states that for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the 2024 elections, they ought to replace Mr. John Mahama as their flagbearer.
In an interview on Wontumi TV which was monitored by Wontumionline, Dr. Smart Sarpong explained that issues about presumed corruption could be working against the candidature of Mr. Mahama hence, the caution from EIU.
“When the issue of corruption is brought up, Bawumia, Alan Kyeremanten, Boakye Agyarko and Apraku who are all potential candidates from the NPP are not known to be corrupt like Mahama. Maybe when corruption is put out, they know it would affect John Mahama”, Dr. Smart Sarpong said.
He highlighted that the EIU report is making it clearer to the NDC that Mr. John Mahama as their flagbearer, can’t take over from the current NPP government.
Giving an insight into what could have contributed to the report put out by EIU, Dr. Smart Sarpong explained that the researches might have considered the banking sector risk of Ghana to search whether our economy is robust for investment.
He added that EIU might also look at Ghana’s sovereign risk to understand what we use our loans for and how we service our debts. Currency risk, which involves measuring the strength of the cedi to dollar together with Economic structure risk, all forms part of the factors they used in their research.
Lastly, Dr. Sarpong continued that Political risk, to ascertain whether Ghana is politically stable might be considered in the EIU research.
