Managing Editor of the Custodian Newspaper, Mr. Awudu Mahama has weighed in on a report by the United Kingdom-based Economic Intelligence unit (EIU) offering a different view from claims by the unit that they expect the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the 2024 elections.
He opined that despite the prediction by the EIU, winning the 2024 elections in Ghana has more to do with the political party with a good strategy.
“Political party with good strategy will win the 2024 elections”, he said as he hammered on the cautions EIU has spelled out to the NDC before they can win the impending election.
Commenting on the report, Mr. Awudu Mahama asked members of the NDC not to lose sight of the caveat by the EIU that they can only win the election with a fresh candidate like Dr. Kwabena Duffour and not former President John Dramani Mahama.
In a studio discussion on Movement TV which was monitored by Wontumionline.com, Mr. Awudu Mahama described Mr. John Mahama as the NDC’s “presumptive candidate” but chipped in that based on the report, he can’t lead the party into victory.
The EIU has projected a win for the opposition NDC after the 2024 General Elections in a report published on Friday, April 28, 2023 and contained in their April 2023 Country Report on Ghana.
Apportion of their report read: A former president, John Mahama, launched his campaign to secure the NDC presidential candidacy in March.
However, the NDC could also choose to revitalise its prospects with a fresh candidate, such as Kwabena Duffuor, a former finance minister, who has also declared his intention to secure the party candidacy.
But Mr. Awudu Mahama maintains that members of the NDC shouldn’t “jubilate” yet since they haven’t revitalized their base with a fresh candidate.
“NDC shouldn’t jubilate yet they should look at this angle well. They can revitalize their base with a fresh candidate but their presumptive candidate is Mahama and Mahama is not a fresh candidate”, he underscored.
