Education Ministry, UTAG Smoke Peace Pipe; Strike Called Off
The Ministry of Education says it has reached an agreement with the leadership of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) over its intended strike.
UTAG had threatened to resume its strike on Friday if the government failed to show commitment to its demand for better working conditions and implementation of the 2012 memorandum, which pegged their salaries at US$1500 to US$2000.
Speaking in an interview on Wontumi Radio Morning Show, the Head of Public Relations at the Ministry, Kwesi Kwarteng said the two parties arrived at a consensus on Wednesday making way for UTAG to rescind its decision.
“There has been a figure if both parties agree it would be announced publicly,” he told Oheneba Nana Asiedu.
Kwesi Kwarteng stressed that there was no way the Government was not ready to listen to the cry of UTAG.
