The Municipal Chief Executive for GA West, Honourable Clement Wilkinson, has urged the Electoral commission to make provisions, for enough machines in the ongoing limited voters’ registration.
According to him, the inadequate electoral machines to handle the huge numbers of the applicant is a worry to him.
Adding that, it will discourage applicants from registering, which will in turn, disenfranchise them in 2024.
“If the electoral commission decided to hold the limited registration only at its district offices, then the commission should have thought it wise to make available more machines to fast track the process, since its only held at the district level. I’ve been providing water, shades among others for the applicants, just so they wouldn’t be discouraged by the slow pace of registration and leave. Therefore, I’m appealing to the EC, to make available more machines for the registration, if they are not going to open it up to the electoral areas”, he explained on Movement In The Morning show on Movement TV.
The Electoral Commission (EC) began it’s Limited Voter Registration exercise at its district offices across the country on Tuesday, in spite of a pending interlocutory injunction filed at the Supreme Court by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and four other minority parties.
The 21-day exercise is scheduled to end on October 2. It starts from 8am. to 5p.m. each day, including weekends.
