Eastern Region: Over 300 Artisans Receive Entrepreneurial Skills Training From GNPC Foundation

 

As part of efforts to reduce unemployment and tackle poverty, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation’s (GNPC) Foundation, has supported the skills training of 325 artisans in various fields.

The GNPC Foundation in collaboration with ASEDA Foundation, a non-governmental organization, supported the three hundred and twenty-five (325) artisans with NVTI certification.

The beneficiaries, who have undergone apprenticeship in various vocational skills such as plumbing, fashion design, carpentry, auto-mechanics, general electrical, hairdressing, interior designing & decoration, and aluminum fabrication, are expected to sit for their NVTI examination.

In an interview on the sidelines of a visit to the training center in Koforidua, the Head of the Economic Empowerment Unit at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Mr. Kwame Karikari, indicated that the GNPC Foundation will enhance the employability skills of young artisans and empower them to pursue their entrepreneurial ambitions.

“The GNPC Foundation is committed to contributing, supporting, and building the capacity of Ghanaian youth to ensure that many of them become economically independent to support themselves, their families, communities, and Ghana at large. We are sponsoring the training to skilled artisans with the National Vocational Training Institute’s (NVTI) certification.”

“The beneficiaries have all undergone apprenticeship in various vocational skills such as plumbing, fashion design, carpentry, auto-mechanics, general electrical, hairdressing, interior designing & decoration, and aluminum fabrication, and they will further be provided with soft skills training in standards of business and entrepreneurship.”

He added that “the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) of the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), will take them through course models such as Book-keeping, Marketing/ Sales, Branding, Customer Relations, Attitude to Work, Safety at Work and Entrepreneurship, and they will later undergo a graduation ceremony where each would be handed a set of tools relevant to their skills to help set them up for their entrepreneurial journey.”
