Eastern Region Forestry Offices Get Boost As Deputy Lands Minister Visits

Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Akwasi Konadu, visited the Eastern Regional Forest Service and Wildlife Division (FSD) of the Forestry Commission on Thursday, September 19, 2024.

The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry and its agencies and guide decision-making for the benefit of all stakeholders.

Mr Konadu emphasized the importance of his visit, stating, “I am here to familiarize myself with the operations of the Division and strengthen the bond between the Ministry and its Agencies.”

During the meeting, Regional Manager of FSD, Noble Eshun, outlined the division’s achievements, including surpassing last year’s targets, but pointed to challenges such as staffing shortages, lack of office logistics, and forest encroachment by farmers.

Similarly, Moses Anongura, Regional Manager of the Wildlife Division, raised concerns about managing protected areas and zoos, as well as securing land for a new zoo in the New Juaben North District.

In response, Mr Konadu assured the staff that the Ministry and Forestry Commission would provide the necessary logistics to support and motivate both field and office workers.

Additionally, the Deputy Minister visited the Ministry of Roads and Highways Training Centre, where he inspected trees planted during the Green Ghana Day exercise.

The Centre’s Principal, Mr. Daniel Kojo Asare, pledged to nurture the trees to maturity.

The visit highlights the government’s commitment to addressing challenges and enhancing forestry operations in the Eastern Region.
