A former Member of Parliament for the Bantama Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu Esq, is being urged by supporters to contest the General Secretary position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Kokofu’s experience as a former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Boss and his track record as a lawmaker have endeared him to many, who believe he has the leadership acumen to steer the party to victory in 2028.
Supporters, who spoke to journalists during a press conference, emphasized the need for action-oriented leadership within the party.
They argued that Dr. Kokofu’s experience and expertise make him an ideal candidate for the General Secretary position.
Dr. Kokofu’s credentials are impressive, having served as the Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency from 2013 to 2017.
However, he faces stiff competition from other leading members of the party, including the current General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, who has also expressed interest in contesting the position at the 2026 Congress.
Despite the competition, Kokofu’s supporters remain optimistic about his chances, citing his ability to connect with grassroots members and his experience in navigating the complexities of Ghanaian politics.
As the NPP prepares for its internal elections, the contest for the General Secretary position is expected to be highly competitive. Kokofu’s decision to contest will likely be influenced by the level of support he receives from party members and his own assessment of his chances.
