Dr. Bawumia Pushes For Extended 8-10 Year Validity Of Driver’s License Renewal

The flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has been advocating for significant changes regarding the validity of Ghana’s driver’s licenses and renewal.

Currently, a driver’s license holder has a two-year period to renew their card, while a Ghanaian passport holder has a 10-year validity period before renewal.

In view of this, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia believes the current system has become burdensome for motorists over the years and argues that a longer validity period will address the situation.

“Drivers are here. Today, the driver’s license expires every two years. Let us extend it, be it 8 years or 10 years. Let us ensure that you can have a driver’s license without having to renew it annually. It does not make sense, and so by the grace of God, we will make changes.”

Dr. Bawumia made these remarks when he addressed chiefs and other stakeholders at Boadua in the Akwatia Constituency of the Eastern Region as part of his election campaign tour.

Over the years, motorists have accused the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) of harassment by both DVLA officials and the police over the non-renewal of their licenses.
