Broadcast Journalist, Dasebre Agyei Dwamena has noted that the Dormaahene, Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II, must either resign or be sacked as a justice of the High Court for comments passed on a matter pending before the courts.
He said that the Judicial Council must take an action against the Dormaahene for appealing to the Attorney-General (A-G), Godfred Yeboah Dame to drop the criminal charges against James Gyakye Quayson, the Member of Parliament-elect for Assin North.
The Dormaahene made the call whiles speaking at the Professor John Evans Atta Mills’ Commemorative Lecture in Sunyani.
He insisted that it was needless for the Attorney General to continue the case after the chiefs and people of the Assin North constituency have re-elected Quayson.
Dasebre described the utterances as malicious and unfortunate- giving the fact that it’s coming from a Paramount Chief and a high court Judge of the republic of Ghana.
He noted that he was extremely shocked to the core, when he heard Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II made such an appeal.
“Then I’m forced to believe that the as a high court Judge, he hasn’t been fair and partial in his judgement. Because, why would he want a criminal case discontinued, when the person had defied the laws of the country. If possible, every case he’s ruled should be recalled for another judgement- because I’m sure there may be innocent people, he might have wrongly jailed”, he said.
Osagyefo Agyemang Badu who doubles as the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs said the law has a provision that permitted the A-G to discontinue any case if citizens were not interested.
However, Godfred Dame said comments made by individuals in high positions could potentially impact the ongoing criminal trial.
