She said that while proper nutrition is essential during pregnancy, uncontrolled cravings can result in strange combinations that can harm both the pregnant woman and the unborn baby.
The dietician spoke at the Tema Regional Office of Ghana News Agency’s weekly “Your Health! Our Collective Responsibility” initiative, which is aimed at influencing personal health choices by improving health literacy.
Amoako stated that it is important to understand why women eat at any moment during pregnancy. She said, “know if you’re eating because you’re hungry or because you’re happy.”
She said one way to control cravings is to keep track of the foods one eats throughout the day to identify unnecessary foods eaten.
Scheduling eating times
The dietician said the track record aids in the detection of unhealthy diets and the identification of healthy alternatives to obtain the proper proportion of energy required for life.
She said another way is to schedule eating times throughout the day, which, when carefully followed, helps reduce excess weight.
She emphasised the importance of keeping healthy food at home and advised that unhealthy food not be kept at home to reduce its intake.
Amoako said it is critical to have a meal plan, which may or may not be a professional one. It should include the four-star diets to improve women’s health during the pregnancy journey.
