Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew has praised former Cote D’Ivoire striker Didier Drogba for representing the West African nation and the African continent well.
He said this during his appearance in French Ligue 1’s documentary, “Follow Your Lucky Star: Africa and Ligue 1 Uber Eats, the common goal”.
Drogba starred for Olympique Marseille before moving to Chelsea where he won the UEFA Champions League title with the EPL side.
The Ivorian forward is an ambassador for the 2023 AFCON that is set to be hosted by Cote D’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11.
With The Elephants, Drogba starred in the AFCON; he was part of the Cote D’Ivoire team that lost 2-4 on penalties to Egypt at the 2006 AFCON.
Speaking on Drogba’s influence, Ayew stated, “Didier Drogba, he’s a true gentleman who represented the colours of Ivory Coast and the African continent very well. He had a huge career.”
Ayew is set to compete in the 2023 AFCON (eighth overall) with the Black Stars in Group B against Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
Cote D’Ivoire is in Group A with Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria.
