The Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has responded to the ‘hypocritical’ demand by former President John Mahama for government to compensate victims who suffered from an explosion at Appiate.
Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi reminded Mr. Mahama about how badly his government handled compensation for the June 3 victims stating that till date, majority of the families haven’t received any form of relief he promised them.
On June 3, 2015, a devastating calamity hit the National Capital, Accra, Kwame Nkrumah Circle to be specific, where a twin disaster of flood and fire drowned and charred to death 152 Ghanaians.
Despite former President Mahama’s promise to help the victims with Ghc50 million to cover relief and humanitarian operations, majority of the victims claim they haven’t received a penny after the incident.
Chairman Wontumi therefore called Mr. Mahama to order by informing him that the government of President Akufo-Addo is working harder and better than how he handled a similar disaster.
Chairman Wontumi explained to Wontumionline.com that after the Appiate explosion, President Akufo-Addo’s government has set up a support fund which has so far received GHC35 million to provide relief to the victims and community.
