Defense And Interior Committee Of Parliament Visits Islamic Senior High School (VIDEO)

The Vice Chairperson of the Defense and Interior Committee in parliament, Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford, has indicated that the committee will be able to meet the deadline given to it by the Speaker of parliament to present a report on the disturbances that occurred at the Islamic Senior High School.

Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning  Show, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman noted that the committee is expected to meet tomorrow Wednesday June 22, 2022 to draw conclusions on the report and subsequently present it to Parliament.

“We are a fact-finding committee, we didn’t go there to investigate what happened-we will allow the Inspector General of Police and his people to work on that. Our job was to ascertain the situation and report back to parliament as directed by the Speaker. The students were happy we came to sympathize with them. We thank God no life was lost; except for one asthmatic girl who’s still suffering with some pains, all other people who were hospitalized are doing very well.” she said.

She added that the committee took the opportunity to advise the students that although they have the right to demonstrate they should ensure they do that under the confines of the constitution.

This comes after the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, had directed the Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament to, in a week, visit the Islamic Senior High School in Kumasi and report to Parliament.

Speaking in Parliament on June 14, 2022, he said, “few days ago I made references to the Committee on Defense and Interior about the brutalities being meted out to ordinary citizens by our security agencies. I do not mince words in stating that we take those things seriously and I even directed the committee to investigate all the reports that have been generated from commissions and committees set out to investigate such matters have yielded no results”.
