COVID-19: Nose Mask Wearing, A Challenge For Banda District- DCE

The Chief Executive of Banda District in the Bono Region, Hon. Mrs. Mary Konneh, says the wearing of the nose masks in her area has become a major challenge.

According to her, the residents do not understand the importance of wearing the nose masks.

But speaking on Wontumi Radio and TV on Election 2020, Hon. Konneh stressed that education on the wearing of the nose mask is underway hoping that soon the residents will understand the importance of it.

She disclosed that, the area has recorded 19 COVID-19 cases without death.

According to her, managing the pandemic at first was not easy because a section of foreigners were invading the area through some unapproved paths.

Hon. Konneh commended the Assembly members of the area for helping curb the plight.

President Nana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo signed a law (E.I164) that criminalizes the act of not wearing a face mask that fully covers the mouth and nose in public places.

The law states that those who are found guilty would be fined a minimum of 12000 cedis ($2000) or a maximum of 60000 cedis ($1000), or will be sentenced to spend between four and 10 years in prison.

As per E.I164 Ghanaian courts have been granted the authority to hand both a fine and a jail term to the offenders when considered necessary, while the Ghanaian police are now entitled to assure citizens obey the new measure by application of the new executive instrument, signed by the president on June 15.
