COVID-19 Has Affected Fertilizer Production Across The World – Agric Minister
The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Afriyie Akoto has explained that farmers did not receive enough fertilizers on time.
This, he noted, is due to the serious effects of COVID-19 pandemic on various companies that produce fertilizers across the world.
He said, Ghana has paid Ghc 186,631,445 which represent 44% percent of its total debt which is Ghc 587,876,748 owed to all the fertilizer companies that supply fertilizer to farmers under the 2020 Planting for Food and Jobs campaign.
He indicated that, the Agric Ministry has approved an upwards adjustment of prices for planting for food and jobs fertilizer for 2021 to cushion the fertilizer companies on account of increased world market fertilizer prices due to the effect of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Minister was answering to an urgent question filed by MPs for South Dayi and Bawku Central, Nelson Etse Dafeamekpor and Mahama Ayariga respectively.
