COVID-19: Ghana Nears Restriction Of Mass Gathering As Cases Surge

Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, has hinted that, Ghana is near to the restriction of mass gathering like wedding, church services, funerals, parties et al as the coronavirus active cases keep surging.

According to him, churches don’t adhere to the rules the government issued for the worshipping hours.

“Some Churches worship for about three to four hours.” He told Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Wontumi Radio/TV on Monday.

President Akufo-Addo, during his 22nd address to the nation on the measures taken to curb the spread of the pandemic said that he has no option than to reimpose the lockdown if the cases keep on increasing.

Dr. Nsiah Asare emphasized that, Ghanaians can remember the hardship the lockdown posed to them so they should comply with the protocols.

According to him, Ghanaians like listening to the President’s slogan, “Fellow Ghanaians” so he believes they will adhere to the coronavirus protocols.

“The coronavirus is still in the system. We knew what we did to control the spread when it rose to the peak so we should go back and adhere to the preventive measures,”he admonished.

The Presidential Advisor on Health further advised that, institutions should place veronica buckets in their work places.

“Everybody should wear the nose mask. It is difficult to wear it but if you keep on wearing it you become used to it,”he said.

He stressed that, people should not wear the mask under their chin adding that, passengers should tell drivers and their mates to wear the mask when they board car.

In the latest update on its website, the GHS puts the number of active cases at 2, 413 indicating a report of 658 new cases.

This pushes the cumulative case count to 59,480 whilst the number of deaths has jumped to 361.

The number of recorded recoveries now stands at 56,706
