Coventry City Manager Lampard Backs Thomas-Asante After Ending Goal Drought

Coventry City F.C. manager Frank Lampard has reaffirmed his confidence in Brandon Thomas-Asante after the Ghana international ended a recent goal drought in the club’s latest victory.

The 24-year-old forward marked his return to the starting lineup by scoring in Coventry’s 3–0 triumph over Preston North End F.C. in the EFL Championship. The result keeps Coventry at the top of the table, holding a six-point advantage over second-placed Middlesbrough F.C..

Thomas-Asante enjoyed an impressive start to the 2025–26 campaign, but his momentum was disrupted midway through the season due to injuries and a three-match suspension that limited his involvement.

Lampard, however, insisted the striker continues to have his full backing.

“That’s scoring goals what he gave us right early in the season, and he’s obviously had his injury and then came back and suspension, so it’s been a bit broken for him since then, but I’ve got a lot of faith and love for Brandon working with him every day,” he said after the game.

The former England international added that the striker showed encouraging signs during the match.

“It was a good game for him to come into at home here…and I thought he dealt with it well, and getting his goal as the game went on, I liked him more—his power, his reaction, always trying to press, and he’s got that power and speed about him,” Lampard added.

Thomas-Asante has now registered 11 goals and four assists in 25 Championship appearances this season. He will be aiming to maintain that form when Coventry host Southampton F.C. at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday.
