Court Declares Kim Kardashian Legally Single In Divorce With Ye
This pronouncement means that Kim Kardashian has officially and legally removed ‘West’ from her name after eight years of marriage to Ye, previously Kanye West.
On Wednesday, Kim Kardashian was declared legally single after a virtual court proceeding with Judge Steve Cochran after a year-long battle to end her marriage to Kanye West. This move is called a bifurcation, and it allows a person in a complicated divorce to become legally single while sorting out issues of child custody and property. In Kim and Kanye’s case, the presence of a prenuptial agreement nullifies a property tussle.
Last month, Kim said that the court terminating their marital status will help Kanye accept that their marital relationship is over. She also shared that Ye’s recent attacks on her new boyfriend and sharing their private texts has caused her emotional distress.
At the divorce hearing, Ye’s lawyer pushed for an agreement from Kim to forego any marital privilege she might have with a subsequent spouse. This was denied by the judge after Kardashian’s lawyer called the move “unprecedented”.
